convention. that's the question. one of many we're exploring this morning. thanks for joining us. >> we've got a lot of news to cover. pipeline safely, those gas lines, how safe are they and what is done to try to help them. also the mayors race and national politics. >> that's right. and the occupy protests. we've seen a lot of them in the bay area including one last night that brought major star power. >> the murder rate in oakland is climbing this weekend. >> that is on the heels of a movement to crack down. police are look for people involved in a double homicide. they found two people shot near park avenue. one person died at the scene, another one died later at the hospital. that brings the total number of murders in oakland to 93. in 2010, there were 95 for the entire year. the mayor presented her proposal for reducing the city's crime rate. the mayor spoke of changing the city one block at a time. the idea is to concentrate on 100 blocks where the data shows that 90% of the homicides actually happen. it calls for more police patrols, more attention attention and mentoring

billing. today are recovering from pepper spray injuries. police fired pepper spray and used pepper ball guns against protesters in denver yesterday. about 2,000 people marched through the downtown area. hours later, officers in riot gear moved into a park where protesters had set up their encampment. police say one police officer was knocked off of his motorcycle and two others were kicked in the head. >>> and a very different picture of the occupy movement in san francisco. and that's where protesters reflected the halloween season. protesters dress up as what scares them the most such as a ghost, goblin or a greedy banker. protesters also marched down market street in downtown. police are also letting the protest camp at justin herman plaza remain intact for now. >>> and a peaceful turnout for the hells angels member laid to rest this weekend in san jose. there were more officers on the street as friends and family paid their final respects to steve tossan. about 600 people showed up for the service. he was shot at another funeral at the same location. he was also a former marine
